IBM to support information and communication technology

Prof. Makame Mbarawa
The ministry of communication signed the memorandum of understanding with IBM corporation on Wednesday the decision which will make them to work together to help the government to achieve its plan of making the performance of the Port of Dar es Salaam more efficiency. The government wants Dar es Salaam port to be a cornerstone of regional commercial infrastructure and source of revenue. “For years the government has been investing in improving the infrastructure at the port of Dar es Salaam with little investment in the Information and Communication technology, with this MoU we expect more technological development at Dar Port,” said the Minister for communication, science and technology Prof. Makame Mbarawa. Although the minister did not actually speak in which manner the technology will be helping to enhance the port activities and the implementation of the project is not yet clear but it is a good sign. Currently the Dar es Salaam port uses Cargo system management software to manage shipping and marine operations.  This move will enhance Tanzania’s effort to compete in the technology industry in East Africa.
