Again the power of Mobile Money Wednesday this week M- PESA customers learned how important the service is to the community after the few hours of system failure. The situation caused shock and confusion among the customers of M-PESA although the mobile phone operator cleared their doubts on the services by announcing it was just a normal temporary technical error which has been fixed already.
Most of the customers complained about the problem saying that the problem started in Tuesday evening, they were not able to complete their transactions through their mobile phones and most of them were just left without an option of what to do. Most of the clients who highly depend in mobile money transactions to conduct their business were so confused with some of them complaining they were not able to send money to the rural areas to purchase some items to be sold in Dar es Salaam.
Vodacom head of cooperate communication and public relations Joseline Kamuhanda told the local newspaper "The Citizen" that there occurred a technical error in SMS linked to M-PESA customers that ended up causing the confusion.
"Currently there is a large population of mobile money services and sometimes servers of the operators appear just to be stressed with so many request at per to their systems" claimed a local ICT professional. The mobile services provided by Vodacom has proven itself to be among the most influential game changers of the mobile money transactions in the Tanzania telecom industry. Currently the mobile money transactions per month in Tanzania reaches 1 trillion Tanzanian per month this shows how vital the service is to the economy of the country.
