Tanzanian artistes said it’s enough on their caller tone deal…..

The local artistes have sent a seven day notice to terminate their contracts from the company Spice Vas Tanzania Limited after experiencing that the companies and other mobile stake holders are gaining extremely higher on the caller tunes and mobile tone deals than the actual owners of the musical work.

As it was leaked on the media about the OnMobile Company, the company based in India and the way they are making up to 40 million Tanzanian Shillings per day in caller tunes without consulting the local musicians to whom their works are being exploited. The artistes now are moving to server deal with the local company Push Mobile about new deals favoring both the sides compared to the last one in which artistes were losing billions of shillings on royalty sharing schemes.

The artistes have collected 127 signatures from different local musicians, bands and official representatives of the musicians who were not present. Some of the artistes include Tanzania professional rappers such as Professor Jay, AY, Mwana FA, Godzilla, Fid Q, Mataluma, Izzo B and Dully Sykes.

The letter from artiste’s union lawyer was directly pointed to the Telecom giant companies of Tanzania, Airtel, Tigo, Vodacom and Zantel clearly stating that “We, The artistes of Tanzania in unison irrespective of the genre, instruct you to stop any further sale of our music in terms of caller tunes and ring tones to mobile phone companies”.
