Niger, Nigeria Urged to Explore ICT in Fight Against Terrorism

Information Minister Labaran Maku
Secretary General of the Nigeria-Niger Joint Com-mission for Co-operation, Abubakar AbdulJalil Sulaiman, has called on THE two countries to use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve on information sharing in order to enhance the Early Warning System (EWS) of both countries, particularly in the war against terrorism and disaster management.
Sulaiman, who made the call at a meeting of the Committee of Experts on Information Matters in Abuja, observed that trans-boundary terrorism, human and drug trafficking as well as proliferation of small arms and light weapons were on the increase in the West African sub-region and that the two countries should facilitate the free flow of information between them.
Sulaiman also advised members of the committee to identify critical areas which can give rise to exchange programmes that will educate and benefit both countries.

In his remarks, Information Minister Labaran Maku said this year's meeting will focus on the progress report on exchange of television and radio programmes between both countries, co-operation on study tours, training and retraining of media personnel of both countries, amongst others.
