Secretary
General of the Nigeria-Niger Joint Com-mission for Co-operation, Abubakar
AbdulJalil Sulaiman, has called on THE two countries to use Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) to improve on information sharing in order to
enhance the Early Warning System (EWS) of both countries, particularly in the
war against terrorism and disaster management.
Sulaiman, who made the call at a meeting of the
Committee of Experts on Information Matters in Abuja, observed that
trans-boundary terrorism, human and drug trafficking as well as proliferation
of small arms and light weapons were on the increase in the West African
sub-region and that the two countries should facilitate the free flow of
information between them.
Sulaiman also advised members of the committee to
identify critical areas which can give rise to exchange programmes that will
educate and benefit both countries.
In his remarks, Information Minister Labaran Maku
said this year's meeting will focus on the progress report on exchange of
television and radio programmes between both countries, co-operation on study
tours, training and retraining of media personnel of both countries, amongst
others.
