Zambia's fixed
and mobile interconnection fees have come into effect, aiming to bring down the
cost of communications. The industry regulator, ZICTA, said the determination
was made under the Information Communication and Technologies (ICT) Act No. 15
of 2009. It came into effect on 01 January and is binding on all the fixed and
mobile telecommunications network operators active in the Republic of Zambia,
Biztech reported.
Noting that the
new rates for 2013 and 2014 were not so different from the rates of other
nations, ZICTA said the rate for 2013 would be ZMK 225 or 23 Ngwee per minute,
with the rate for 2014 dropping to ZMK 200 per minute.
