ZICTA managing director Margaret Mudenda said the authority was
pleased to sign the MoU with one of its stakeholders, the CSO.
Ms Mudenda said it was important for ZICTA to have a reliable
source of information for the sector to perform its regulatory role
more effectively.
“So far, ZICTA obtains its statistical information through our
market competition and licensing department which is also responsible
for research at our institution.
However, due to the enhanced regulatory role we have
at hand, the task of information gathering and analysis has grown and
we have decided to partner with CSO in order to facilitate exchange
of information and sharing of skills between the two institutions for
the benefit of the Information and Communication Technology sector
and other related sectors,” Ms Mudenda said.
She said the authority and CSO would endeavour to
collaborate in the provision by CSO of enumeration and supervisory
manpower and services for surveys undertaken by ZICTA, exchange
statistics, verification of cooperative statistics like contribution
of ICT sector to the gross domestic product and preparation and
review of research proposals among many other areas.
The activities implemented under authority of the MoU shall be
subject to availability of funds on the part of ZICTA and human
resource capacity on the part of CSO and the approval of each
institution’s authorised representatives.
