Back in 2009 when I was reading one of the most reputed Indian technology magazine Chip magazine I read a story about the new search engine in the industry with the power of searching almost everything and give the specifics of the queries without providing the links to that query to other sites. The search engine is called Wolfram Alpha also known as computational search engine.

When you search for Ngorongoro crater in Google you will get different links directing you to the sites which either mentioned Ngorongoro or relate to Ngorongoro in one way or the other but when you search for Ngorongoro in Wolfram Alpha you will get the complete mathematical profile of the crater including the topographical position, the city in which its located, the local time, the population of the city, the country, geographical features around it and so on. Try the search for Ngorongoro

Actually the search engine is very useful when you want detailed mathematical information about a particular stuff. Although sometimes the results requires some amount of expertise to crack and understand but for the people in the same field of operation the search engine is handy.  For example trying to search for chromosome it will bring results which requires a biology expert to interpret and understand. Try to search for the term chromosome

Am sure you have experienced this sometimes the internet speed is good and you are receiving the bytes but still some pages take long time to open or even doesn’t  allow you to open them at all. You are trying to configure the internet speed but still the page cannot be accessed while other sites are working just fine. On 6^th august 2009 twitter was shutdown for hours, millions of users all over the world were not able to access the site due to DoS, so this is a common thing it can occur to your site or any other site out there.

“a denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the efforts of one or more people to temporarily or indefinitely interrupt or suspend services of a host connected to the Internet.” That is the explanation given in the Wikipedia. But actually what is meant to be said is that simply the service provider is being stressed.

For example in the hospital if a single patient keep on coming back to the doctor with different cases every time and the doctor is attending him alone then others will not be able to get the service from the doctor, that is what the hacker does to the server or the site, he is keeping sending multiple request until the server become s stressed and it cannot serve others who are sending request to it. The diagram can explain it clearly.

The attacker in red is the stubborn patient who keeps on coming back to the doctor (server) with different problems (sever requests) and stressed the doctor as the result the doctor will become tired (stressed) and will not be able to attend other patient (users) in the hospital (system). The site which is under DOS attack usually takes time to load and it is running irritatingly slow whenever the user want to access it.

Using Batch programming you can do a lot of things, actually I advise you to start now. Batch files are the files with the extension of .bat these files most of the time they tend to affect the system directly. They have strong interaction with the system’s operations. People use these files to create malicious software. Now, this is how you create a virus that restarts the system.

Open Notepad in windows

Type:

cd..

shutdown /t 30 /r /c "a virus has been detected"

save the file with the extension of .bat for example virus.bat and click to run it

The message “virus has been detected" will pop up and the computer will be shut down in 30 seconds and restart again

Put in mind:

/t indicates time interval that can be changed (for that case 30 is for 30 seconds)

/c indicates the message that you want to display

/r indicates restart windows you can change it to /s to only shutdown windows

You can trick your friend by creating an icon on the.bat file and create a shortcut on the desktop pretending it to be a game or frequently used software but when they click it should restart their system, have fun!!!.

With the office password cracker you can be able to view locked files or files which requires authentication to log in. Microsoft office provides users with ability to put security in their files all you have to do is go to:

Tools - Options - security tab-enter your desire password (MS-Office 2003) for MS-Office 2010 users go to File - Info - Permission. Just remember the privileges make sure the authentication options are clear for people not to view or modify, you can allow them to view but not modifying.

To hack office passwords all you need is all in one office passwords cracker. There is software out there advance office password recovery this software is used to recover password lost by the users. Alternatively the software can be used to hack the files. The software can be downloaded from here.

Most of the government offices in Africa and middle East still using Fax as major means of sending official documents from one office to another. I remember back in 2010 i suffered a lot when i was supposed to send some documents via fax to the Tanzanian high commission to India in Delhi since i was in Bangalore. It took me hours before i found a small office which charge some few rupees for you to forward your docs using their facsimile machine.

HelloFax  isn't the only service to send faxes online, but its tight integration with Google Drive makes it incredibly easy to use.

With HelloFax installed, every fax you send with the service is linked directly into your Google Drive. Need to fax some forms? Send them from Drive. Waiting on a fax? HelloFax will stuff it right into your Drive folder so you can access it from anywhere. Most of us only need a fax machine on rare occasions and HelloFax is a handy alternative to a big clunky machine. More on Hello Fax click here

I remember back in the days when I use to quarrel with my parents about going to buy Luku (the local Tanzania electric bill) from the nearby petrol station. Most of the time I was tired, coming from school after the long day all you need is  to have a  heavy rest and someone is telling you to get up and find  the bus to go and pay your electric bill. To hell the days, thanks to mobile money the savior, once again mobile phone proves the power of technology and the way it can affects people’s lives. The new Tigo package of “Buy Luku” has come with some added advantage, for every Tigo customer who will use the service, meaning that paying your electric bills via Tigo Pesa account you will be given free 10 min talk time (Tigo to Tigo) immediately after the accomplishment of the mobile transaction. To log into the services you will have to dial *150*01#.  I wish Tigo could come up with more of these services topping up their current services of paying Luku and DSTV cable. Still there is lot of services people would like to have them at their fingertips using their mobile phones. For example places to go and have fun, booking tickets and so on. It is up to the mobile companies to become more creative trying to reach the customer requirements and satisfaction.

“Works smarter with BlackBerry for business at Tshs 20,000 per month” the Ad  was posted yesterday in the local magazine, another Ad advertising even cheaper package of “Wajanja”  the Swahili term for the smart ones the package will allow local  BlackBerry users to have internet at the lower  cost of Tshs 7000. Both of the packages would be available for BlackBerry users.  In order to get the service you will have to dial *149*01#. The Tshs 7000 package target the Tanzanian youth who are frequently BBM users, the social chat engine has proven itself to be influential to the Tanzanian youth in recent months.  The battle of the mobile phone service provider is on with companies reducing tariffs everyday trying to attract customers to their companies. For the locals it is an advantage since the access to technology is becoming cheaper every day.  For more on Blackberry Vodacom services click here
