OMR to be used to mark Std VII exam in Tanzania......

Tanzanian Students
Tanzania educators are moving to the new era of marking standard seven exams using computers. The move will help the government to cut down costs associated with managing national examinations. Also it will help to increase accuracy and efficiency in the marking system of Tanzania.

The Ministry for Education and Vocational Training is rolling out optical mark recognition (OMR) to speed up exam making since the technology allows students to use special answer sheets that are subsequently marked by computers.

Deputy Minister of education and Vocational training Mr. Philipo Mulugo told journalists that his office will see the project through and has laid the ground work by teaching  teachers and pupils how the new technology works.

"We expect the programme to go off without a hitch because we offered sufficient training to teachers and pupils across the country" he said.

The move has been taken since the government is spending a huge amount of money and workforce to mark the exams in time and still there have been a lot of complains about redundancies in the current exam marking system.
