A total of
thirty thousand youth have been selected to undergo a six month intensive
training in Information Communication and Technology (ICT) under the expanded
ICT Module of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP).
The
beneficiary youth are drawn from all ten regions across the country. The
training is collaboration between NYEP and the Rlg Institute of Technology, a
subsidiary of Rlg Communications.
Under the
programme, trainees will be taken through basic computer skills, software,
hardware and entrepreneurship. The trainees will also have the benefit of
learning mobile phone and computer repairs.
This was
announced by the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah
at a ceremony to graduate 710 beneficiaries of the programme in Ho in the Volta
Region. The Deputy Minister said the Ministry was working assiduously to ensure
a proper legislative framework governing the Programme was in place.
The Volta
Regional Minister, Henry Ford Kamel in a speech read for him, congratulated the
710 beneficiaries and charged them to put knowledge acquired to good use.
The Head of
the Rlg Institute of Technology, Isaac Appiah announced plans to expand facilities
of the institute across the country to ensure more youth gain access to ICT
education and training.
He said Rlg
Communications has also begun a programme to upgrade and certify some
beneficiaries of the programme to become training instructors at the
institute's 46 centers across the country.
The
National Co-ordinator of NYEP, Abuga Pele in a speech read on his behalf
announced measures to expand the current scope of the programme to include
additional modules to facilitate access. Each beneficiary was presented with a
certificate and set of equipment to help them set-up their own businesses.
The ceremony
was chaired by the Paramount Chief of Ziavi, Togbe Kwaku Ayim, who
congratulated government for equipping the youth with employable skills. Present
at the ceremony were the Paramount chief of Kpando, Tobgega Dagadu and the
Regional Police Commander, DCOP Alex Bedie, as well as officials from the Volta
regional office of NYEP.
