The formal inauguration of the Network of Communications Reporters (NCR) will take place on Thursday October 4th at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan ICT Centre of Excellence in Accra.
The Network, which is made of journalists with special interest in writing ICT news and analysis, was formed a couple of years ago. NCR is now a registered body fully incorporated under the laws of Ghana.
NCR aims to bring together communicators with interests in ICT reporting; equip them with skills in ICT reporting; educate and inform the general public on ICT issues; advocate for ICT as a paramount tool for development and access to international communities; and to serve as a social networking platform for members.
A release issued and signed by the Dean of the Network, Mr Charles Benoni Okine on Wednesday said, “The Minister of Communications, Mr Haruna Iddrisu is expected to be the Guest Speaker for the day.
Ms Dorothy Gordon, the Chief Executive Officer of the KAICTC will chair the occasion. Also expected at the function are the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Telecoms Chamber, Mr Kweku Sakyi-Addo, representatives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA);  Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ); Parliamentary Press Corps among many others.
Mr Benoni Okine said the Network had come to stay and pledged the commitment of members to ensure that ICT plays a pivotal role in the growth of the economy. “The NCR will not allow itself to be used as a propaganda tool by any player in the ICT sector because that will defeat the purpose for which was formed”, he said.
The Dean said NCR would be balanced in its reportage to ensure that it fed the public with the right stories and analysis to enable people develop  interest and make ICT an enabler for their development.
