Tanzania’s 1st
data journalism bootcamp is offering free seats to 30 journalists, 30 developers
/ coders, and 30 digital creatives who want to help
reinvent the way that the media works.
The
3-day event, at University
of Dar es Salaam's (UDSM) College of Information and Communication Technology in Dar es Salaam, will be led by an
international team of experts from Google, the Open Knowledge Foundation, the
UK's Guardian, and Upande.
Participants will
learn how to find, extract, and analyse public data, using powerful forensic
tools, to tell better informed stories. They will also work in teams to build
news-driven mobile apps and civic engagement websites, to augment traditional
news reportage.
The
best projects will win $2,000,
as seed grants, to turn prototypes into real newsroom products.
