Vodacom Tanzania has filed an application at the Court of
Appeal, seeking to nullify the execution of proceedings given by the Registrar
of the High Court's Labour Division in favour of seven former employees in
respect of payments of over TZS 77 million.
The registrar had required
Vodacom to deposit the sum in execution of an award of the Commission for
Mediation and Arbitration (CMA). Vodacom's advocate Juma Nyamugaruri is asking
the Appeal Court to examine and revise the records, proceedings and orders issued
by registrar Mohamed Gwae on 06 February.
While pursuing their case before the CMA, the ex-staff, who had been
customer service operators, had also filed a matter at the High Court's
District Registry, demanding damages for alleged injuries sustained in the
course of their employment, including ear pain and loss of hearing. They had
alleged negligence by Vodacom.
