East Africa Regional court to adopt computerized system

The regional court (the East African Court of Justice) is going introduce the use of technology to emphasize efficiency in their daily activities. The court will implement the use of electronics case management system to replace the manual system that they are current using ton manage their cases.

Hint: The East African Court of Justice (EACJ) is a treaty-based judicial body of the East African Community tasked to ensure adherence to law in the interpretation and application of and compliance with the East African Community Treaty of 1999.

The new system will emphasize the digital filling of case records and ensure the documents related to the cases can be accessed online to judges who are supervising the cases. The information was released this Friday through the Regional Court Registrar Mr. John Ruhangisa.

“We are considering going electronic anytime next year, this will culminate in doing away with papers” The registrar told the reporters when he was updating them on courts proposed projects and programmes.

He insisted the system will increase efficiency and reduce data redundancy. This will help the administration of justice by the regional court in which they are still using the analogue system of managing cases.
The special information technology (IT) team is working on the project before the court. The team is analyzing ways of filling the information in the digitized way.

However he said the system would be delayed due to the absence of requisite infrastructure and availability of funds to fund the project. The court like other organs in the East African Community (EAC), next month will be relocated to the new building ultra-modern EAC Complex.
