Yessaya Mbwambo,
Secretary of the Kitunda based group, Kiombo poultry keeping told The
Guardian that they had recently received training from the Tanzania library
Service Board on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as well as the
various applications of computers and potential benefits of the internet
particularly in accessing vast amounts of information.
According to IPPMedia.com, Mr Mbwambo however reported the lack of well established ICT infrastructure like computers has left them handicapped and in no position to practice what they have learned.
To worsen the matter, the farmers are still facing some of the more rudimental troubles, inadequacy of start up as well as working capital. Monica Elbert, Project Planner Libraries for Development at the Electronic Information for libraries (EIFL) which is based in German, was the recipient of this information.
"We have the skills to use computers, conduct electronic information searches and applications but the lack of computers prevent practice and we fear loosing what we have learned," he aired their plight to the EIFL project planner who acknowledged their need and emphasized the many ICT benefits in store for the farmers.
"Access to information is very important for your business," she underscored and then pledged "I will talk to the Director of Tanzania library Service Board to see how they will solve this problem."
