AIRTEL
Tanzania in partnership with PUMA Energy has joined forces with the government
in promoting the National Road Safety Week in a move designed to curb road
accidents.
The
Deputy Home Affairs Minister, Mr. Pereira Silima, said this year's National
Road safety Week would be held in Iringa Region from September 17 to 23.
"Statistics
show that the number of road accidents was on the rise, I appeal to every
Tanzanian to be part of this campaign by abiding to road safety rules in line
with year's theme: 'Fight Road Crashes by Action Observe the Law.'
"Road
safety campaign is progressive and will involve education, awareness and
vehicle checks as fundamentals to road safety. I encourage all motor vehicle
owners to ensure their vehicles are inspected and roadworthy," he added.
The
Airtel Regulatory and Corporate Communications Director, Ms Beatrice Singano
Mallya, said: "Airtel is proud to be associated with efforts to save life
and property in our community.
"It is
committed to enhance the road safety ideals and awareness to road users through
such kind of engagement as part of its community social responsibility (CSR)
programmes. "Every year thousands of men, women and children die in road
accidents and the result is loss of man power," she said.
