The
Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West has handed over GH¢100,000 worth Information Communication Technology (ICT)
center to the chiefs and people of Nyakrom in the Agona West of the Central
Region.
Mr.
Samuel Kweku Obodai, the MP, who handed over keys to Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku
X, Omanhene of the Traditional Area, said the project was financed from his
share of the MP’s Common fund.
The ceremony
coincided with a durbar to climax Annual Akwambo Festival of Chiefs and People
Agona Nyakrom. Thirty of the estimated 60 computers and accessories have been
installed and the rest would brought soon, Mr. Obodai said, adding that the
establishment of the center was one of his top visions for Agona West
Constituency.
He said a
bus would be procured from his share of common fund to help convey students
from cluster of schools in and around Agona Nyakrom to the center. The MP said
arrangements have been made with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to post ICT
teachers to center to manage the facility.
Mr.
Obodai advised adults in the area to take advantage of the facility to acquire
computer knowledge saying ICT learning has numerous benefits. He expressed
concern about the poor Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results
of the area and promised to collaborate with Agona West Municipal Assembly,
chiefs, Assembly members and other stakeholders to reverse situation.
Mr. Obodai
said collaboration has been made with the Unique Fire Foundation, a
Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Accra, to assist orphans and
widows in the Agona West Municipality to improve their living standards.
He called on
the teachers in the area to upgrade them at the University of Cape Coast
Distance Learning Campus at Agona Nyakrom to enhance effective teaching and
learning. Okofo Nyakoh Eku appealed to the parents to invest in their
children’s education to enable them become responsible adults.
He appealed
to parents to stop purchasing expensive funeral wears, shoes, and desist from
other unprofitable expenditures which militate against the progress of the
children’s development.
He expressed
appreciation to the MP for the provision of ICT to the town and hoped that it
would go a long way to assist students and adults in the area to become
computer literates. GNA
