Vodacom Tanzania launches free mobile money transfer …..

Tanzania’s mobile money market is getting another boost with the introduction of free mobile money transfers by Vodacom Tanzania. It is part of the company’s continued promoting of their M-Pesa services in the country and they hope that the move will help spur growth in the cashless society in Tanzania.

Managing Director Rene Meza said the campaign is “to thank over 4.5 million customers who continue to rely on M-Pesa for their daily transactions.” With the promotion, he said, “all M-Pesa users will instantly get a refund of their transfer charges on any amount sent to a Vodacom customer.”

He said the refunds “will be in the form of airtime and will be paid immediately after the transaction has been made.”

Tanzania has been pushing hard on the mobile money sector, hoping that it can help continue to boost an already robust economy and increase the use of mobile phones for monetary transactions.
The company urged users to take advantage of the new free service in order to pay transactions easy and without worry of facing high tariffs as has been reportedly on the rise by other operators who want to cut costs in the mobile market.
